LG has finally introduced its new K-series (2017) and new Stylus 3 smartphones right ahead of the CES 2017 to be held in Las Vegas next month. The new K-series models include the K3 (2017), K4 (2017), K8 (2017), and the K10 (2017), and new device in Stylus series – Stylus 3.
Entry-level device K3 (2017) has a 4.5-inch 480 x 854 resolution IPS display with In-cell Touch technology. K3 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core processor clocked at 1.1 GHz, with the Adreno 304 GPU. just as expected from an entry-level Android smartphone, the K3 (2017) comes with just 1GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 32GB with a microSD card. The smartphone is equipped with a 5MP camera at the back and a 2MP camera on the front. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, and 4G LTE. K3 is powered by a 2100mAh removable battery.
The K4 (2017) which features a slightly larger 5-inch 480 x 854 resolution In-cell touch IPS display and is powered by the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 210 quad-core chipset as the K3 (2017). K4 is identical to the K3 (2017) in the memory department as well, packing just 1GB of RAM and 8GB of included expandable storage. In the camera department, the K4 (2017) features a 5MP camera both on the back and on the front. Connectivity specs include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.1 Low Energy, GPS, and 4G LTE. The smartphone measures 144.76 x 72.6 x 7.9mm and weighs in at 135 grams. The smartphone includes a 2500mAh non-removable battery.
The LG K8 (2017) comes with a better 5-inch 720 x 1280 HD In-cell Touch IPS display and runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 quad-core SoC clocked at 1.4 GHz supported by the Adreno 308 GPU. It is a level above the K3 (2017 and K4 (2017) in terms of memory, with 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of expandable storage. On the back K8 (2017) features a 13MP primary camera with an LED flash. There is also a 5MP camera on the front. Connectivity specs include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with A-GPS, NFC, and 4G LTE. There is a 2500mAh removable battery, similar to the less expensive K4 (2017). In terms of dimensions, the handset measures 144.8 x 72.1 x 8.09mm and weighs in at 142 grams.
The most expensive in the new K-series is the K10 (2017). Features a 5.3-inch 720 x 1280 HD resolution In-cell Touch IPS display with 2.5D curved glass on the front. Smartphone is run by the MediaTek MT6750 64-bit octa-core SoC clocked at 1.5 GHz, with the Mali T860 GPU and 2GB of RAM. K10 will be available with either 16GB or 32GB of internal memory, expandable further up to 2TB with a microSD card. The main camera is a 13MP unit with an LED flash, while the secondary camera is a 5MP front-facing unit with a 120-degree wide-angle lens. The K10 (2017) offers Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with GLONASS, NFC, and 4G LTE. The battery inside the handset is a 2800mAh unit, which can be easily replaced. The K10 (2017) is also the only new K series smartphone to be equipped with a fingerprint scanner. Device measures 148.7 x 75.3 x 7.9mm and weighs in at 142 grams.
Also announced by LG today is the Stylus 3. It features a large 5.7-inch In-cell Touch IPS display with 720 x 1280 HD resolution and 2.5D curved glass. Powering the Stylus 3 is the MediaTek MT6750 64-bit octa-core chipset clocked at 1.5 GHz, with the Mali-T860 GPU handling the graphics. The octa-core chipset is paired with solid 3GB of RAM and 16GB of onboard expandable storage. Stylus 3 packs a 13MP comera at the back and an 8MP selfie camera on the front. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS with A-GPS, NFC, and 4G LTE. The Stylus 3 comes with a rather large 3200mAh removable battery. There is a fingerprint scanner as well, positioned at the back of the device. Key point of the Stylus 3 is the Stylus Pen, with improved precision and a host of new software features. LG claims the new stylus will give users the feel of writing with an actual pen, thanks to a 1.8mm diameter fiber-tip. In terms of dimensions, the LG Stylus 3 measures 155.6 x 79.8 x 7.4mm and weighs in at 149 grams. Stylus 3 will be available in Metallic Titan and Pink Gold colors at launch.
The LG K3 (2017) and the LG K4 (2017) both run on the older Android 6.0 Marshmallow operating system out of the box, which is to be expected from entry-level Android smartphones. The LG K8 (2017), K10 (2017), and the Stylus 3 run on the latest Android 7.0 Nougat operating system out of the box, with usual LG’s custom Android skin running on top.
